Workshop Descriptions
Situational Writing
This is one component where students can score full marks or close to full marks. Students will learn skills that make a real difference to their Situational Writing to impact their task fulfilment as well as language.
We will cover both formal and informal writing format and language features, as well as how students can set context for their writing, to bump up their language score.
Composition Writing
Considered one of the most challenging papers in the examination, composition writing is more an art than a science. In this workshop, we focus on impacting your child’s writing through a focus on descriptive language with our DEF framework. This framework provides students with a tried and tested way to improve their compositions.
We will cover Dynamic Dialogues and how to use them effectively, Emphatic Emotions to bring characters to life and Feeling Verbs to reel the reader in.
Grammar, Synthesis and Transformation
Grammar always feels like everyone should know it because we speak English but the truth is that most of us struggle with it (except the teachers at EN, of course! Haha!) Here to address the common errors and the must-know grammar rules to hack the examination, your child will walk out of this workshop with renewed confidence for the coming exams.
Covering the fundamentals of grammar needed for Primary 5, we will dissect common questions in the MCQ and Editing sections, as well as the tricky questions that are set in the Synthesis and Transformation section.
Comprehension Cloze
A pinch of current affairs, a dash of history and a spoonful of vocabulary are the ingredients for a well baked comprehension cloze. Topped with creamy fresh grammar and the cake is set to be a bestseller!
Setting students up for success in this component of the paper is about equipping them with key skills to leverage clues from the passage and boosting their confidence through practice.
Comprehension Open-Ended
More than just reading a story and answering questions, Comprehension Open-Ended is about reading between the lines, seeing nuances and being able to express what you understand.
Using our Predictive Reading Method, students learn to break down information in a way that helps them understand the passage better and then learn a structured way to answer key question types found in this component. Your child will be able to apply these to his/her year end paper immediately!
