Doing well in oral is about being able to communicate effectively.

In this webinar, we went through the mark allocation for the 2024 and 2025 PSLE Oral and the implications of the shift in the MOE syllabus. We also shared English Ninja's structured approach to preparing students for their oral assessments.

Don't worry if you missed the webinar! Here is the full recording for your reference.

As promised, here are some open-ended questions you can use with your child:
  1. What was something today/yesterday/this week that made you feel good about yourself?
  2. What were you thinking when we tried ___ for the first time that day?
  3. (Referring to something on television / in a movie / poster etc) Would you be interested in that?
Follow up with open-ended questions like What about this/that/it does not appeal to you? OR What about this/that/it are you curious about?
  4. (Referring to a situation that has happened) How would you handle that differently the next time something similar occurs?
  5. (After reading a story or news article) How would you respond in such a situation? What would you do first? Why?

What you can do to set up for success in your child's PSLE Oral

Creating conversation with your child is to get curious and to encourage them to get curious - about events that happen around us, about how they can respond differently and how experiences shape them.
Talking about shared experiences like being on a crowded bus during peak hour, waiting for a table at a food court or enjoying the music of a busker along Orchard Road. It is about getting children to be observers of their environment and of themselves, and to think about their experiences.
Understand that it is challenging and that practice makes progress. Celebrate small victories and keep going!

Yes, we do have Oral Workshops coming up!
