Making The Most Of The June Holiday

Looking for a way to liven up the mid-year break without staycations and avoiding malls? With the MYEs finally conquered, students can now look forward to a well-deserved vacation even if it a rather subdued one thanks to the current Heightened Alert. After weeks of helping your child to prep for their exams, you might now be facing a whole other challenge: how to occupy their time during a month-long hiatus.

Here are three tips on how to plan an enriching June Holiday!

1 Embrace the active lifestyle

If the school term has seen your child spending the majority of their days behind a desk, then some time outdoors is long overdue. Physical exercise serves as a healthy outlet to relieve stress and pent-up energy – not to mention improves the immune system and one’s overall physical health. Apart from the therapeutic qualities of fresh air, exercise also provides an excellent bonding opportunity. Although large group activities might be out of the question, there are still ways in which you can get the kids excited for some fun under the sun with individual or paired sports activity such as cycling, hiking or badminton, or a homebased workout. There are tons available for free online!

2 Get the creative juices flowing

A break from school routine frees up time for a student to develop other aspects of their lives. In order to become a well-rounded individual, an adolescent’s creative curiosity must never be left wanting. Nurture your child’s artistic side by encouraging them to pick up new creative endeavours or further develop existing ones. Explore art in its myriad of forms, from visual art such as painting and pottery, to watching musicals, reading good children’s literature, to the written form such as creative writing.

3 Strengthen areas of weakness

When it comes to mastering a language, the key lies in nurturing a love for the language and practice. With neither the rigours of a school timetable nor the stress of tests, this break is the most conducive period for students to work on weaker academic subjects.

With that in mind, EN offers a wide range of holiday workshops designed to help students brush up on areas of concern. Our extensive holiday programme includes Ninja Authors, Ninja Speech and Stories for Primary 1- 4, Composition Writing and Comprehension for Primary 1 to Primary 6. Students gain insight into planning and writing compositions with well-developed storylines through our in-house ABCDEF Composition Writing techniques and learn how to answer questions effectively in the Comprehension Open-Ended component. Secondary school students seeking to improve their literary analysis and writing skills will also find our literature workshops useful.
